Description
Inspired by the desire to share stories of home, sacrifice, and celebration with children, Sugar unfolds 165 years of Indian history in South Africa through poetic storytelling and vivid illustrations. This heartfelt journey honors the courage, resilience, and heritage of the Indian community – reminding families of the strength that shapes who we are and the legacy we carry forward.
Richly illustrated in colour throughout and a text written in poetic prose, Sugar tells the story of the history of indenture, forced on the people from the Indian subcontinent, who eventually settled in South Africa, and it is a story told simply and with great sensitivity.
